Portable Dust Collector

A portable dust collector will serve to protect three important aspects of any personal and professional space: (1) respiratory problems, (2) damage to equipment or property, and (3) unpleasant smell and sight.

There are different types of Dust Collectors and your purchase should be dependent on your need but the most neglected one is that of the most simple. Ordinary work areas such as a bedroom or office space are often regarded as a clean space. However, dust may be generated even in the most simplest of means such as walking on the street. Buying a Portable Dust Collector may seem an unnecessary expense at first but the benefits far outweighs the expense.

When buying a Portable Dust Collector, just check the following points before settling for a specific brand and model:

"What Kind of Portable Dust Collector Should You Choose" dust collection systems

Dust Sucking Power

Choose a universal brush motor with at least 1HP. The motor will be noisier and may even require you to put on ear plugs but this will also allow suck in dust more diligently.

Actual Size

Most dust collector with 1HP will not be portable. Some models may have wheels but that is just as good as having a shopping cart. With a small space, it will never be near enough to the corners you need it to be. Make sure that the brand or model you are going for will not only have wheels on it but also a handle so you can pick it up and bring it around. It must also be light enough for anyone that may use it. I usually look go for under 15Kg but again, yours should be dependent on your condition.

Make sure that the wheels have wheel breaks, too.

Air Inlet Collector

The universal air inlet connector is 4 inches. Make sure the model you are buying accepts this without problem to avoid buying a new hose.

Material of Collection Bag

I prefer a collection bag of woven fabric material with 35 microns. This will avoid the tiniest dust particles from being filtered out and returned to the air. It may be argued that a non-industrial space does not need a fabric this fine and it may be true as much as it may be untrue. Smaller, non-visible particles will always be a threat. It is always better to play on the safe side.

Easy Maintenance

The collection bag is the part that will need to be maintained the most. Take that into account as well. I suggest you keep the bag half full or less to avoid any trouble and to keep it at its best condition all the time.

Filters

Know how much the filters will cost when you need to replace it. Although some filters may be cleaned and re-used, others need to be changed altogether periodically.

Portable Dust Collectors are essential in any work or personal space. It is always a better option to keep yourself, your workers and other people around you safe, healthy and comfortable.
